The History Committee awarded TWO Retrospectroscope winners in 2024:
Jasmin Katrin Badawi, MD (Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg, Germany) won for her paper and presentation on Basil Isaac Hirschowitz, Harold Horace Hopkins and Narinder Singh Kapany: Four continents, three scientists, two immigrants and the first flexible endoscope.
Shirin Razdi, MD (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital) won for her paper and Forum presentation on The History of the Hijra: A Third Gender in the Indian Subcontinent.
The AUA History Committee voted to award both papers a winning prize (each author will receive a vintage cystoscope/plaque and $500 from the American Urological Association).
In addition, medical student John Eckenrode (University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia) will receive the Honorable Mention Award for his submission on The Legacy of Leonard J.T. Murphy.
